Traditional employment agencies charge a fee or commission of 10-20% of the personal assistant's annual salary. For example, if the personal assistant's annual salary is $50,000, and the agency charges a 15% placement fee, the fee would be $7,500 (15% of $50,000). But we’re not a traditional agency.

Our candidates aren’t looking for salaried, full-time positions, and our fees reflect that availability:

We charge a non-refundable deposit of $100 to interview up to 5 candidates. Once you have decided to hire a candidate, we charge a placement fee of $445, bringing our total services to $545.

  • The Middle only places part-time positions, between 5-25 hrs/wk. All of our positions are meant to be ongoing; we do not place day gigs, temp, or contract positions.

  • All of our qualified assistants can handle both in-person tasks out of your home and in your neighborhood, as well as remote online work. A 100% remote position can open up opportunities for candidates who are based further away from your home (while still being in the same city). But if your needs include in-person tasks like errand-running, or if you’d simply prefer to work in person, our assistants are local and available to do so.

  • Pet care is not generally the responsibility of a PA and should be more of a “nice” to have than a “need to have”. However, some candidates are happy to support you with your pet’s needs (walking, taking to the vet, etc.) Just outline what you are looking for in our Client Questionnaire.

  • We place personal assistants for private individuals and busy professionals, spanning a range of industries. Every client of The Middle is provided with candidate matches who fit their specific needs. One of the elements in this matching is experience or interest in your industry, whether that be matching candidates with film editing skills with filmmaker and photographer clients, or candidates who have event planning experience with clients who love to throw dinner parties.

  • The Middle works like a personal assistant matchmaker - after reviewing your needs, we will send you your best candidate matches for free.

    Next, if you would like to interview any of the candidates, just let us know your availability and we’ll do the coordinating and simply send you a confirmed schedule and invitations to each Zoom interview.

    There is no obligation to hire any of the candidates that you interview, but if you decide you’d like to, we’ll confirm once your choice accepts your position, and then connect you directly. You’ll take it from there!

    We are not involved in the actual employment (we do not facilitate onboarding, manage your PA’s hours, or direct payments through us), allowing you the flexibility to work with your hire on a personal and adaptable level.

  • We work to send you qualified candidate matches from our database as soon as possible, within 2 weeks of receiving your request (though often sooner!). Interviews are then scheduled at your convenience so we move as quickly as you do! After you choose a personal assistant to hire and pay our placement fee, we’ll immediately connect you with your new assistant to get started.

  • Childcare, whether babysitting, picking up from school, or taking to activities, should not be expected of your personal assistant. However, some of our candidates are experienced nannies and babysitters and may be open to supplemental childcare. You’ll be able to note your “nice to haves”, like childcare, when you submit our Client Questionnaire.

  • A lot of personal assistant work can be done from their home! Booking appointments, making reservations, researching vendors & service providers can all be done remotely online. Of course, we’ll always match you with candidates based in your city (Los Angeles or NYC) so if you have weekly errands or home organization to tackle, our personal assistants are available in person too!
