FAQs
-
Personal assistants can offer support for your family by helping you research and book family vacations, scheduling activities for your children, or offering general household organization. It’s important to keep a main direct support for your personal assistant so they are not told conflicting information by different family members. Additionally, childcare should not be expected of a personal assistant.
-
An executive personal assistant provides comprehensive support to busy professionals—such as entrepreneurs, consultants, and executives—by handling both administrative and higher-level tasks that streamline business operations and enhance productivity. A household assistant focuses exclusively on home-related tasks, such as overseeing housekeepers, researching schools, summer camps, or vacations, paying bills, and keeping the home stocked with essentials. The Middle places part-time personal assistants, executive personal assistants, and household assistants. Please note: household assistants placed through The Middle do not perform cleaning or laundry duties.
-
Our assistants have varied backgrounds, which may include healthcare experience, but we do not place traditional office assistants/front desk associates. Our personal assistant candidates are looking for a flexible schedule supporting you with various personal and professional tasks, inside and outside the home or remote.
-
A virtual personal assistant can support you wherever you are! Our assistant candidates are well equipped to work asynchronously and efficiently, providing you with support how and when you need it. Our assistants are based in the greater Chicago area so are able to perform more than just virtual assistant duties, and can also meet in person to pick up packages, returns, or help you with home organization (to name a few!).
-
The Middle focuses on part-time, ongoing positions and typically does not place personal assistants in project-based or seasonal positions. However, we may have candidates who are willing to support you in this capacity- please specify your needs up front in our Client Questionnaire and we will match you with candidates accordingly!
-
The Middle doesn’t require minimum hours or fixed plans—we match you with qualified, local personal assistants who can support you for as little as a few hours each week. While candidates will expect an approximate number of hours that you specify (whether that be 5-10 hrs/wk or 15-20 hrs/wk), you’ll be able to communicate and coordinate directly with your personal assistant as needs fluctuate each week.
-
Simply share your needs by filling out our Client Questionnaire, and we will match you with qualified, local personal assistants in Lincoln Park and the surrounding neighborhoods. We’ll send your candidates straight to your inbox for review and approval for setting interviews- then coordinate those interviews on your behalf. If you’d like to hire one of our personal assistant candidates, we will extend your offer and connect you directly to your hire as soon as they accept. You will take it from there!
Hiring a Personal Assistant
Benefits of a Virtual Personal Assistant vs. In-Person Personal Assistant
Our personal assistant candidates offer both virtual and in-person personal assistants. The amount of support you require remotely or in-person can be tailored to your lifestyle. Regardless of the type of assistant you choose, all candidates are based in your city, aligned with your local time zone and able to facilitate in-person meetings if needed.
Virtual Personal Assistants
Benefits:
Access to Specialized Skills: Virtual assistants often have strong backgrounds in administrative and executive support, making them ideal for tasks like calendar management, email correspondence, and online research.
Flexible Scheduling: Without the need to commute, virtual assistants can offer more flexible availability.
Broader Candidate Pool: Since physical proximity isn't a constraint, you will have access to a wider range of qualified candidates in the Chicago area who can meet your specific requirements.
In-Person Personal Assistants
Benefits:
Hands-On Task Management: In-person assistants can handle tasks that require physical presence, such as running errands, home organization, and overseeing service appointments.
Personalized Interaction: Face-to-face interactions can help develop a stronger working relationship, enhancing communication and trust between you and your PA.
On-Site Support: Having someone physically present when you can’t be home- like meeting service providers or help coordinating a move.
Things to Consider When Looking for a Personal Assistant in Lincoln Park
Outside of the support you are looking for (whether business, personal, or both), it’s important to consider what working with a personal assistant would look like week-to-week. Candidates will want to know the approximate number of hours each week they can expect to work for you, as well as how much of the position will be in-person and how much will be remote. You’ll also want to consider the rate you’d like to offer. If you are looking for strictly personal support, you’ll want to be prepared to offer $25-30/hr. If you are looking for more administrative, executive, or higher level house manager support, you should be prepared to offer $30-40/hr.
