Hiring a reliable part-time personal assistant on the Upper East Side in New York City is easy with The Middle. We will match you with candidates who live in Manhattan, Astoria, Long Island City, or Brooklyn and can easily commute to your area. All candidates in The Middle are screened and qualified before meeting with clients. The idea is to work with a candidate on a part-time, but long-term basis so we look for reliable, trustworthy assistants who can support your daily life!

All candidates are pre-interviewed and given an internal assignment that assesses how they research, organize, and communicate information/online tasks. The Middle also conducts reference checks.
The Middle does not conduct background checks as we are a California LLC and CA employment law prohibits background checks from being conducted before there is a conditional offer of employment. Since the candidates are not The Middle’s employees, we are not legally allowed to perform the background check.
You may require your hire to complete one at your discretion.

Planning large-scale events typically falls outside the responsibilities of a part-time personal assistant. However, some candidates may have experience assisting event planners or organizing smaller gatherings like dinner parties. If event planning is an ideal skill for your personal assistant, please specify it on your questionnaire, and we’ll connect you with candidates who have relevant experience.

The Middle’s process typically takes a minimum of 10-14 days, depending on your availability for interviews. We strive to present candidates within one week of receiving your request, with interviews arranged at your convenience. If you need follow-up interviews or prefer additional candidate options, the timeline will be extended accordingly.

Bonuses and guaranteed minimum hours are always appreciated, and mileage should always be reimbursed for any driving done on the job (or reimbursing subway fare for errands done on your behalf), but it is not customary to provide benefits to part-time personal assistants.

Any of The Middle’s personal assistant candidates are adept and comfortable working remotely. Regardless of where the work is performed, candidates are always NYC locals.
