Step 8: Getting Started as a PA

The first step to getting started and keeping yourself organized is you need to create a client SOP. SOP is "standard operating procedure" in corporate jargon, but in this context, it means you create a central document or database where you keep all of your client's information and everything you need to do for your client.

Building Your Client SOP

This can be things like dates of birth, frequent flyer numbers, preferences for when you're purchasing different groceries, family members' birthdays, things like that. This is a great place to keep track of all the tasks for your clients, and make sure it's shareable with your client.

Choosing Your Platform

The easiest way to track this is just a Google Sheet. You can share that very easily with your client, but I know a lot of PAs use Notion, Trello, or Airtable—whatever you and your client are most comfortable sharing and accessing easily.

Following Through

And then you have to make sure you're actually utilizing that dashboard, keeping it up to date, following through on your tasks, and letting your client know when things are completed.

And then you're off to the races! The employment is between you and your client. Like I said, treat it like your business, keep open lines of communication, and remain reliable. So I hope this was helpful. I'm wishing you the best of luck out there. I hope everyone can build work as a part-time personal assistant to support yourself while you're doing whatever it is you want to be doing.
